ABOUT ME

I graduated from Chelsea College of Art, London in 1993 (BA Hons Textile Design), specialising in Textile Print design.  I have sold to UK clients such as John Lewis, Laura Ashley and other big names globally.  I love hand painting and can work in a variety of media.

10 years ago I got asked to do some landscape design and illustration which was really successful and I now run my own small company producing designs and illustrations of outdoor areas, specialising in outdoor learning areas for schools and local authorities.

I have recently spent 2 years teaching Art and Design in secondary schools where I worked with metals, wood & plastics.  I got experience in Pewter casting, Forging, joining and creating acrylic sculpture.

I have experience in a variety of CAD software and am currently using Google Sketchup to design 3D models for outdoor areas.

I am a very versatile designer who is looking for any interesting challenges.  I love the problem solving process and can present professionally in a variety of media from fresh hand painted illustrations, to 3D CAD Models.  My current speciality is mixed CAD and hand media storyboards in large scale.

Profile

A bit about me..........

I graduated from Chelsea College of Art, London in 1993. With over 25 years experience in the design industry I have a proven reputation for innovation and creative design solutions.  I live and work in Staines upon Thames with my family.

I am a fully qualified  teacher and  have recently spent 2 years teaching Art, Design and Technology in secondary schools where I  worked with a diverse range of materials. Working with students has informed my designs and developed a particular interest in the effects of the physical environment on learning. I have knowledge and experience  implementing National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and aims, helping schools achieve an 'Outstanding' review. A recent project involved developing specific 'Forest School' spaces within mainstream and special needs school grounds in order for the schools to enrich their curriculum.

I know first hand the pressures and priorities of working in a busy school and pride myself on offering a friendly and  efficient service. My strengths include listening carefully to staff, students and parents to identify requirements, potential challenges and create relevant  design solutions.   I have developed my storyboard presentations in response to client need for a simple way to explain ideas to all for discussion and fundraising purposes.

Recent experience designing for students with a variety of special needs including Severe Learning Needs (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and  those who are on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD),  has led to research and an interest in the particular challenges that some students face. I love helping develop bespoke solutions to create  inclusive, vibrant spaces with appropriate risk and challenge for all.

I continue to work with local schools, during a recent  project I led a workshop for students to create original sculpture for their new outdoor space. I love the collaborative element of landscape design and have developed contacts with a fantastic team of talented landscape professionals, craftspeople, fundraisers and play specialists. Working as an independent consultant allows me to take advantage of the fantastic range of skills and products available on my clients behalf.

Versatility is a key aspect of my approach to design,  and I embrace interesting  challenges from large public spaces to  small residential gardens, always focusing on a visually exciting solution. I love the problem solving process and can present professionally in a variety of media from hand painted illustrations to 3D CAD Modelling. I am constantly updating my skills and media and can offer a wealth of experience with cutting edge ideas to your project.
