Sherwood Park School

Sherwood Park is a school for learners aged between 3 and 19 years that have Severe Learning Needs (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and especially for those who in addition are on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD) and Complex Needs.

    Brief  

Developed in consultation with students & staff

  • Develop disused, derelict school land.

  • Create a  fun, visually and physically stimulating and versatile outdoor learning space that provides a range of challenge for all Sherwood Park students.

  • Particular attention to providing wheelchair access/suitable gradients wherever possible.

  • Making full use of sensory opportunities.

  • Create a 'natural' look, sympathetic to the setting using a wide variety of natural materials and synthetic substitutes to provide durability and year round use.

  • Incorporate elements including areas of shade and shelter, a performance space, musical instruments and climbing,balancing and sliding opportunities

  • Develop  bespoke furniture and play equipment in collaboration with local schools

  • Create a challenging, fun, visually stimulating and versatile outdoor learning space

  • Provide a wide variety of learning opportunities with reference to a 'Forest School' curriculum.

  • Create a 'Natural' look using a wide variety of natural materials and synthetic substitutes to provide durability and year round use.

  • Incorporate elements including areas of shade and shelter, a performance space, role play areas,a bike track and seating.

  • Include climbing and balancing opportunities
